A few years ago, I decided to turn our Christmas tree into a photo exhibit. We have collected so many photos over the years that bring back such special memories. Every year, when I decorate the tree, I love reflecting on the cherished memories as I hang them on the tree.
You can sort your photos and make them all a specific size to fit into the little frames. This process is reasonably quick if you organize yourself before you start the project. Most pictures need to be 2″ x 2″ or 2″ x 3″. (Be sure to save your photo template so you can easily add to your ornament collection as the year progresses).
You can order photo ornaments online which are very nice and easy to do. I have used Snapfish and Costco. They both do a terrific job. If you Google “photo ornaments”, you will find all sorts of suppliers of fun ornament creations. Just be aware, the costs per ornament can range from $10.00 to $25.00 when you go the online route. The cost for the craft store frames are around $2.50 – $5.00. You just supply the photo!
Making photo ornaments is a great project for kids to do as gifts. Here is an example of putting a photograph on a felt snowflake. The pride the child has is wonderful and you will have a historical ornament to add to your tree.
One big part of this project includes writing information on the back of each ornament. I usually try to note where the photograph was taken, the year it was taken, and who is in the photograph. It is really fun to hang each ornament on the tree and see your life’s story come alive.
It is probably too late for you to do this project for Christmas 2014, but planning now for next season would be a fun adventure. You could feature a whole series of photographs you took while out Camera Walking. You can focus on old family pictures that you scan in and make small enough to be ornaments. You can take pictures all year of grandchildren or children, your travel adventures, your animals, or life events.
As you sort your photos, you can place some in your “Ornament folder”. This will force you to get those photographs out of boxes and out of your camera. It will also create wonderful memories at Christmas time every year.
Have fun and start creating real holiday memories . We love to suggest ways to get your photos in view!
Happy Holidays to all our CameraWalking friends!
