What to Give a Camera Walker!

If you have a Camera Walker on your holiday list this year, you might want to check out some of these ideas for gifts.

Walking gifts: Every walker could use a pedometer. We like WeightWatcher’s because it tracks your steps, miles, points, and you don’t have to be a member to purchase it. If you want to track calories try the Omron HJ-321 Tri Axis pedometer.  Or give a gift card to  purchase the many smartphone tracking apps available. We wrote about our favorites in an earlier post.

Walkers need to stay hydrated and keep their feet well protected and fit (see our earlier post), so a water bottle and socks are great gifts. REI is a good resource for both. If you have a cool photograph that your Camera Walker has taken, surprise them with a personalized water bottle. Shutterfly has many fun and reasonably priced options.

Photography ideas: Giver your smartphone Camera Walker a gift card at Apple’s iTunes or Android’s Google Play app store to download photo apps. We shared some of our favorites in an earlier post, so take a look.  If your Camera Walker uses a DSLR and is thinking about a new lens, give a gift certificate at BorrowLenses, to try one out before purchase.  LensPen Cleaning System, rain protectors, or extra memory cards are always appreciated. Consider a sling bag so that your walker can easily carry all of the camera gear, water bottle and snacks for long walks. We love ours and I bet your Camera Walker will as well!

Give the Gift of Learning: Lynda.com and Kelby Training are excellent resources for any photographer. Kelby Training’s online tutorials focus on photography, Lightroom, Photoshop and are taught by well-known professionals. Lynda.com’s tutorials also focus on photography but much more. Both offer monthly or yearly subscriptions. We love both, so check them out on our CameraWalking’s Marketplace page!

Turn Photos into Gifts: You can turn your Camera Walker’s photos into fun items. We shared some ideas earlier this year that can give you ideas. Snapbox turns your smart phone or camera photos into wonderful framed canvas gifts. They come in all sizes ranging from 5×5 to 10×13, and for larger sizes check out  this option. We print often on canvas with great results.

How about a puzzle for your Camera Walker? Puzzleyou.com is one of many sites that will transform your photo into a fun puzzle for your Camera Walking kids or serious puzzler on your list. Create a deck of cards, photo books, calendars, mugs, and much more.

If you want to wait until after the holiday to create a photo book, give a Blurb gift certificate so your Camera Walker can create their own wonderful book.

For more ideas take a look at our Resource page on Camerawalking.com. We recommend many items that would be perfect for a Camera Walker.

Finally Give: Of course we all love to receive presents, and one of the nicest gifts is to donate to a nonprofit in your Camera Walker’s name. There are many nonprofit groups that support photography, so look around in you city for options. We are supporters of Youth in Focus,* a twenty-year old nonprofit group in Seattle that empowers urban youth, through photography, to experience their world in new ways and to make positive choices for their lives.  Take a look at their site. There are some pretty amazing stories there!

We hope that this quick list will give you ideas to help support your Camera Walker achieve better health, fitness and creativity.

* (In the spirit of full disclosure, Carol is on the board of directors of Youth in Focus. It is a great group that we are both very interested in!)
